Alabama Information

The Alabama band is an American band that plays a blend of country and southern rock music combined with a touch of gospel, pop music, folk, and bluegrass. The band was founded in Fort Payne, Alabama (as the band’s name suggests) in 1969, by Randy Owen (lead vocalist and rhythm guitar) and his cousin Teddy Gentry who played the bass and backing vocals.

Soon after forming the band, Randy and Teddy were soon joined by another cousin Jeff Cook as the lead guitarist, fiddle and keyboards player. The band’s first name was not Alabama, but Wildcountry, which they used while touring the Southeast bar circuit in the early 70s as they wrote their original songs.

The took up the name Alabama in 1977 after two of their singles made successful climbs up the charts and RCA Records approached them for a recording deal. The band says their biggest success started coming in the 80s when they have more than 27 singles hitting No.1 on the charts. Sold seven multi-platinum albums and got a number of awards.

Their first single under the RCA Records, Tennessee River, produced 21 number one singles. These include Song of the South (1988), If You’re Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band (1984), Dixieland Delight (1983), Mountain Music (1982), and Love in the First Degree (1981).

The band’s live performance on stage is always electrifying as they including production elements like lightning and rock-concert-inspired sets in their shows. And you can see them live in action by getting your tickets at TicketsOnSale.com.
