The Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL) are a professional ice hockey team that s based in Columbus, Ohio. The Columbus Blue Jackets are a member of the NHL’s Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference. The team uses Nationwide Arena (opened in 2000) that is located in downtown Columbus as their home arena. The color theme for their uniform is union blue, capital silver, and goal red. The Blue Jackets joined NHL in 2000, the same year it was founded.

The team struggled in its initial years and failed to win 30 games in a season until 2005-06. In 2009, for the first time in the Blue Jackets history, they qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs but lost. In 2014, they got their first playoff victory in Stanley Cup playoffs, and in 2019, they won their first Stanley Cup playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Blue Jackets is also the first team in the history of NHL that swept Presidents’ Trophy winner in the first round.

Blue Jackets inducted Sergei Fedorov as their only Hall of Famer in 2005-2008. Some of the individual awards won by the Blue Jackets team include; Jack Adams Award to John Tortorella in 2016-17, NHL Foundation Player Award to Rick Nash 2008-2009, Vezina Trophy to Sergei Bobrovsky in 2012-13 and 2016-17, Mark Messier Leadership Award to Nick Foligno in 2016-17, and NHL Second All-Star Team award to Steve Mason and Seth Jones in 2008-09 and 2017-18, respectively.

Their official Mascot is Stinger, who is a green bug, 6 inches, and 9 feet tall. He entertains the audience by skating on the ice between periods and walks amongst the crowd.
