Rod Stewart Information
Sir Roderick David Stewart, also known as Rod the Mod, is a British rock songwriter and singer. Born on January 10, 1945, Stewart excelled at soccer. Before starting his music career, he worked a series of jobs, which include working as a gravedigger and newspaper delivery boy. Due to his interest in music, he began listening to American and British topical folk artists such as Woody Guthrie, Ewan MacColl, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Alex Campbell, and the debut album of Bob Dylan.
In 1963, Stewart joined a rhythm and blues group, the Dimensions, as a part-time vocalist and harmonica player. But the relations between Stewart and Powell broke down soon, and Stewart departed. He then joined the All-Stars and Long John Baldry in 1964 and released his first single "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl," in October. To maintain a solo career, he released his debut solo album “An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down” in November 1969. His early records were a fusion of R&B, soul music, and folk music.
Stewart's music often took on a new wave, and he released a series of successful albums interpreting the Great American Songbook in the early 2000s. He performed the most significant rock concert in 1994, with a crowd of 3.5 million people in Rio de Janeiro.
Over the years, he has performed several tours including Foot Loose & Fancy Free Tour (1977), Worth Leavin' Home For Tour (1981–1982), A Spanner in the Works Tour (1995–1996), Rockin' in the Round Tour (2007), Live the Life Tour (2013), From Gasoline Alley to Another Country: Hits 2016 (2016), Summer Tour 2017 & 2018 (with Cyndi Lauper), and Red Blood Roses Tour (2019-).
In 2008, Stewart was ranked the 17th most successful artist on the "Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists" by Billboard magazine. Stewart was included in the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. In 2001, the World Music Award Ceremony gave him the Diamond Award for more than 100 million records sold worldwide. To date, he has received nominations for seven different Canadian Juno Awards.
