About Corey Taylor

Corey Todd Taylor (December 8, 1973) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He was introduced to rock music by his grandmother. She also showed him a collection of Elvis Presley records from the 1950s to the 1970s. Songs that appealed to Taylor’s interest the most were “Suspicious Minds,” “In the Ghetto,” and “Teddy Bear.” At the same time, he also began listening to Black Sabbath. In 1992, Taylor formed a hard rock band named Stone Sour and drummer Joel Ekman. Taylor was also approached by Mick Thomson, Shawn Crahan, and Joey Jordison. They wanted him to join their band Slipknot. Taylor accepted their invitation and joined them in one of their practices. He also quit Stone Sour temporarily as he realized that he could expand more in Slipknot. He played his first gig with Slipknot on August 24, 1997. Corey Taylor has appeared as a guest musician in albums of notable names such as Code Orange, Steel Panther, Damageplan, Apocalyptica, and Soulfly. He was also involved in recording a thrash metal band Anthrax, in one of their albums entitled Worship Music. In 2005, Taylor contributed to the Roadrunner United all-star album. Other bands in which Taylor has made guest appearances so far include Biohazard (2001), Slitheryn (2001), Rollins Band (2002), FaceCage (2006). Taylor has also appeared in many films, including Welcome to Our Neighborhood (2001), We Sold Our Souls for Rock ‘n Roll (2001), Roadrunner United: Documentary (2008), and Nostalgia Critic (2018, 2019).
