Diana Ross Information

Diana Ross (March 26, 1944) is an American actress, songwriter, and record producer. She is from Detroit, Michigan, and wished to be a fashion designer when she was young. Diana learned millinery, pattern making, tailoring, and clothing design, along with cosmetology and modeling classes. She was graduated in January 1962. Ross was also an employee at Hudson's Department Store as the first black employee who was allowed to move outside the kitchen.

Diana Ross began with her career when she was only fifteen by joining Primettes (a male vocal group named Primes). During her time in this group, Ross was approached by several artists, including Robinson, Berry Gordy, Janie Bradford, and a few more. The Primettes were later renamed to Diana Ross & the Supremes by Gordy.

Some of the hit singles by the group with Ross being the make-up artist, seamstress, hairstylist, and costume designer are; "Buttered Popcorn," "Let Me Go the Right Way," "When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes," "Where Did Our Love Go." Diana Ross & the Supremes appeared on several other occasions with stage burning performances such as Tarzan (NBC TV series).

Ross began her solo artist journey in 1968 on television specials (TCB, The Dinah Shore Show, and G.I.T. on Broadway). "Someday We'll Be Together" was the first solo recording by Ross. Some of the signature songs by her included in the eponymous solo debut are "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)" along with "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." Some of the other albums by Diana Ross are Surrender; Everything Is Everything, ballad "I'm Still Waiting" (first no.1 single in the UK), Lady Sings the Blues (film debut track), along with 75 hit singles in total.

Being entitled as the "Female Entertainer of the Century" by Billboard magazine, Ross was also the recipient for the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. She was also ranked 16th as the lead singer of the Supremes. She is declared as the most successful female music artist in history by the Guinness Book of World Records.
