Kirk Franklin Information
Kirk Dewayne Franklin (January 26, 1970 )is an American who writes songs, leads choirs, sings religious music, and raps. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas. Franklin got his first job offer when he was seven. He eventually joined the church choir, and at age 11, he was made the music director of the Mt. Rose Baptist Church.
Kirk Franklin & The Family, the group's first record, came out in 1993; it was on the religious music charts for almost two years and also made the R&B lists. Eventually, it sold enough copies to get platinum sales status. It spent 42 weeks at the top of the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart.
After putting out an album called Kirk Franklin & the Family Christmas in 1995, the album went double platinum and won Franklin his first Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album.
"The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin" came out in February 2002. It was No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 1 on the Gospel Albums chart for 29 weeks. It was also rated platinum. In February 2019, it was reported that BET's church music singing competition, Sunday Best, would return after a four-year break.
Franklin was among the first to be on the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2021. Franklin and the American rapper Lil Baby released the song "We Win" on May 21, 2021, as part of the music for the 2021 movie Space Jam: A New Legacy.
