Mötley Crüe is an American heavy metal band consisting of Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, Vince Neil, and Tommy Lee. The band was formed on January 17, 1981, in Los Angeles, California. To date, the band has sold more than 100 million albums all over the world. They have also achieved seven multi-platinum or platinum certifications, twenty-two Top 40 mainstream rock hits, nine Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart, and six Top 20 pop singles.
In 1981, Mötley Crüe released their first debut studio album, Too Fast for Love. After playing at the US Festival in 1983, the band became successful rapidly. They released their second studio album, Shout at the Devil, in September 1983. The band’s other successful albums are Theatre of Pain, Dr. Feelgood, Quarternary, New Tattoo, Girls, Girls, Girls, Mötley Crüe, Generation Swine, New Tattoo, and Saints of Los Angeles.
Over the years, Mötley Crüe has performed numerous tours including the Boys in Action Tour (1981), Crüesing Through Canada Tour (1982), Moscow Music Peace Festival Tour (1989), Monsters of Rock Tour(1991), Anywhere There's Electricity Tour (1994), Mötley Crüe vs. The Earth Tour (1997), New Tattoo Tour (2000), Carnival of Sins Tour (2005), Mötley Crüe Tour (2007), The Dead of Winter Tour (2010), The Final Tour (2004). In 2021 the band will embark on The Stadium Tour from June through September.
In June 2009, Mötley Crüe performed at the Download Festival at Donington Park. On May 14, 2009, they made a guest appearance in the season finale of the comedy-drama television series “Bones." They also performed at Rock In Rio festival on September 19, 2015. In 2019, Netflix released a biopic based on the band's rise entitled The Dirt.
Mötley Crüe won an award for Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Album for their fifth studio album Dr. Feelgood. They have received three Grammy nominations, including Best Hard Rock Performance for Saints of Los Angeles, Kickstart My Heart, and Dr. Feelgood.
