Rolling Stones Information

The Rolling Stones are an English Rock band that was formed in 1962 in London. The current line-up consists of Keith Richards (guitar, vocals), Mick Jagger (harmonica, lead vocals), bandleader Brian Jones (harmonica, keyboards, guitar), Charlie Watts (drums), and Ian Stewart (piano). On July 12, 1962, Taylor, Jones, Stewart, Jagger, and Richards played a gig at “Marquee Club” in London. It was their first gig that was billed as “The Rolling Stones.” Shortly after this performance, the band went on a UK tour. They called this tour a “training ground.”

Rolling Stones is recognized as Britain’s most popular group, rated by the two unscientific opinion polls in 1964, outranking the Beatles. The band signed Andrew Loog Oldham as their manager in May 1963. Decca Records gave the Rolling Stones a record deal contract along with flexible terms. Although, Decca Records had declined to sign a deal with the Beatles.

Rolling Stones released its second LP called “The Rolling Stones No. 2”. The album was released in January 1965, reaching number 1 on the charts. The album was recorded in Los Angeles at RCA Studios and in Chicago at Chess Studio. During the band’s third North American Tour, they recorded a song “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” that became their first number 1 international hit back then. In Spring 1966, the band released the album that was entirely composed of Jagger/Richards songs names; Aftermath. The album reached number 2 on the US charts and number 1 on the UK charts.

Some major albums released by the Rolling Stones include Beggars Banquet (1968), Black and Blue (1976), Undercover (1983), Voodoo Lounge (1994), A Bigger Bang (2005), and many others.

In 1994, the Rolling Stones won the Billboard Music Award in the category of “Artist Achievement Award.” They have also won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987 and many other accomplishments in their field.
