The Weeknd, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, born February 16, 1990, is a Canadian record producer, singer, songwriter, and actor. His stage name is The Weeknd. Born in Toronto, Canada the Weeknd shows his worldly big-city background in his music. He uploaded a few songs on YouTube anonymously in 2010 under the name “The Weeknd.” In 2011, he released several mixtapes such as Echoes of Silence and Thursday and House of Balloons which brought him some major recognition and a fanbase. In 2021 he performed the Super Bowl HalfTime as the main act.
The Weeknd released his debut album “Kiss Land” on September 10, 2013. His next album, “Beauty Behind the Madness” was released on August 28, 2015. Beauty Behind the Madness became his first album that topped the Billboard 200, and its singles “The Hills” and “Can’t Feel My Face” gained mega-success by topping the Billboard Hot 100. He has also been the only artist to hold all top three positions on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart. The album has also won the Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 56th Grammy Awards and was nominated in the category for Album of the Year.
On November 25, 2016, The Weeknd released his third album called “Starboy.” The title song from the album of the same name reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2018, another project named My Dear Melancholy, which was his debut EP as well reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. His recently released After Hours rocketed up the charts as well.
On the whole, The Weeknd has won nine Billboard Music Awards, three Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and nine Juno Awards, and also got nominated for an Academy Award.
