It is a single-elimination tournament currently played at United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

These champions include Michigan State (1999, 2000, and 2019), Illinois (2005), Ohio State (2007), Wisconsin (2015), and Michigan (2018). Michigan State has also won the 2000 NCAA Tournament. The number 1 seed has won the tournament nine times that is the most of any seed.

It was announced by the Big Ten on June 5, 2011, that tournament would return to shuffling between Chicago and Indianapolis.
