The BYU Cougars Team represents Brigham Young University (BYU) in American Football. BYU is a private university. The Cougars were first established in 1922 and have since won around22 Conference Championships and one National Championship (1984). The team plays home games at Lavell Edwards Stadium, which is famously named after their coach Lavell Edwards. It was built in 1964. This stadium has around 63,470 seats. Lavell Edwards is one of the most successful coaches of BYU. He leads the team to win 19 Conference Championships, one National Championship, and seven bowl games.
The BYU Cougars Football Team had also won one division championship in 1996. The Cougars football team has two distinct rivals. One of them is the Utah Utes, and the other one is with the Utah State Aggies. The current head coach is Kalani Sitake. Lavell is the only coach that has made it to the College Hall of Fame among six former football players. Some of the notable and famous players who have made it to the Hall of Fame are Gifford Nielson, Marc Wilson, Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Gordon Hudson, and Ty Detmer. Steve Young is the only player who has made it into the Pro-Football Hall of Fame for the NFL IN 2005.
