The University of Colorado Buffaloes compete in Division I FBS as the school's official collegiate football team. In 1890, the inaugural season began for the club. Folsom Field is their home field and can fit 50,183 fans. Gold, silver, and black are the primary colors of their uniforms. Their designated mascot is named Ralphie. The Buffaloes' current athletic director is Rick George. Deion Sanders leads the team as head coach.
Colorado's athletic director, Rick George, has stated his intention, with the blessing of the aforementioned players and their families, to re-issue jerseys bearing the numbers 24, 67, and 11 in 2020. Modern uniforms assigned such numbers will feature a special patch to honor the occasion. However, players have not used any of those numbers since the announcement. After 19 years of inactivity, uniform number 19 will be made available for reassignment.
Bill McCartney reestablished the Nebraska Cornhuskers as a conference foe in the 1980s, reigniting a long-standing college football rivalry between the two schools from 1898. After a three-year hiatus, Nebraska and Colorado will play each other again in 2024. In 2023, Nebraska lost 36-14 at Boulder. Nebraska holds a 49-21-2 series edge over their rivals through the 2023 season.
