First taking place in 1959, the motor race is now held annually at Daytona International Speedway, located in Daytona Beach, Florida. Former names of the race are Inaugural 500 Mile International Sweepstakes and Daytona 500 by STP. The youngest winner of the Daytona 500 so far is Trevor Bayne in 2011 when he was 20, and the oldest winner is Bobby Allison in 1988 at 50 years old.
According to the NASCAR calendar, the Daytona 500 is regarded as the most important and prestigious race. The U.S television ratings for the Daytona 500 have been some of the highest compared to any auto race since 1995. The Daytona 500 race of 2006 attracted the sixth largest average live global TV audience with 20 million views, which was higher than any sporting event that year. This motor race is also known as the "Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing" or "The Great American Race."
