Edmonton Oilers Information

The Edmonton Oilers is a professional ice hockey team that is based in the city of Edmonton, Alberta. The team was originated in the year 1972 and is currently owned by the Oilers Entertainment Group. The Oilers are a member of the Pacific Division of the NHL's Western Conference. The franchise was officially founded in 1971 by W. D. "Wild Bill" Hunter and is owned by the Oilers Entertainment Group. The very first season played by the Oilers was in 1972. The team was formerly known as Alberta Oilers (1972-73 WHA) but changed their name to the current one when joined NHL in 1979.

The former home arenas of the team include Edmonton Gardens (1972–1974), Northlands Coliseum (1974–2016), Commonwealth Stadium, and the present one; Rogers Place  (since 2016). The Oilers have opted for orange, white, and navy blue as their uniform colors. The mascot of the team is a Canadian Lynx named "Hunter." It was unveiled on September 26, 2016.

"Oilers Octane" was a cheerleading squad that was introduced during the 2010-11 season by the team. It consists of 19 women aged 18 to 29. The team members who made into Hockey Hall of Famers are Glenn Anderson, Paul Coffey, Grant Fuhr, Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Mark Messier, Adam Oates, Jacques Plante, Chris Pronger, Norm Ullman, and 4 of builders of the sport. Rod Phillips (broadcaster) was awarded the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award in 2003 by the Hockey Hall of Fame.
The Edmonton Oilers won 5 Stanley Cups, 7 Conference Championships, 2 President's Trophy, and 9 Division Championships. Some of the other NHL awards and trophies won by the Oilers include NHL League Championship, Clarence S. Campbell Bowl, Art Ross Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy, Hart Memorial Trophy, James Norris Memorial Trophy, King Clancy Memorial Trophy, Lester B. Pearson Award/Ted Lindsay Award, Vezina Trophy, and a few more.
