The Inter Miami CF is a professional soccer team based in the United States. Its foundation year is 2018. In the 2020 season, the team moved to the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer. The club's home MLS games are now played at DRV PNK Stadium, which replaced Lockhart Stadium.
MLS commissioner Don Garber confirmed in November 2012 that the league is interested in placing an expansion franchise in WORDSMiami. This interest developed despite the failure of expansion bids led by Bolivian telecom entrepreneur Marcelo Claure of Miami and FC Barcelona in 2009 and the dissolution of the Miami Fusion after the 2001 season.
In addition to the $2 million punishment and $2.27 million cut from the club's allocation monies for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Mas was fined $250,000, and McDonough was prohibited from league operations until the end of the 2022 season. Neville's departure from Inter Miami was announced on June 1, 2023. They were now ranked dead last in the Eastern Conference.
On July 15, 2023, Messi joined the team as a Designated Player and will remain with them through the 2025 MLS season. Tata Martino, a native of Argentina and a former manager of Barça, was named the club's new head coach on June 28 and moved to Miami the following month.
