New York Islanders Information
The New York Islanders is a professional ice hockey team based in Uniondale, New York. It was founded in the year 1972. The Islanders play their home games at Nassau Coliseum . Jon Ledecky and Scott D. Malkin own the team. They chose royal blue, orange, and white as their uniform colors. The team is a member of the Metropolitan Division of the NHL’s Eastern Conference.
The Islander’s first logo was made in 1972, but later on, it underwent a few changes. Now they use the simplified jersey logo with just the “NY” over it. The team’s mascot is “Sparky the Dragon,” whereas the former mascot was Nyisles. They also featured an ice crew named Ice girls who skated over the coliseum in breaks to clear the snow and also in terms of advertisements. Islanders released a new jersey, which was blue third featuring an “NY” with some more customization, which was appreciated widely.
They played their first win on October 12, 1972, in a 3-2 game against the Los Angeles Kings. The New York Islanders won 4 Stanley Cups from the year 1979 to 1983. In June 2015, Andong Song was selected by the Islanders in the 6th round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, making him the first Chinese player to be drafted by an NHL team.
Six players and two team builders were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame for the New York Islanders. Bossy, Gillies, Potvin, Smith, Trottier, and Pat LaFontaine were the players inducted while Bill Torrey and Al Arbour were the team builders inducted in the Hall of Fame.
