Oakland Athletics Information
The Oakland Athletics are one of the American professional baseball teams founded in 1901 as Philadelphia Athletics (1901-1954). The team is based in Oakland, California, and competes in MLB (Major League Baseball) as a member of the American League’s (AL) West Division. The Athletics play their home games at RingCentral Coliseum currently, whereas they have played their home games formerly at Columbia Park (1901-1908), Shibe Park (1909-1954), and Municipal Stadium (1955-1967). The Athletics were formerly known as Kansas City Athletics (1955-1967), Oakland A’s (1968-1986), and eventually became Oakland Athletics in 1987.
The Athletics are famous for their several nicknames, such as The White Elephants, The Green and Gold, The Elephants, The Swingin’ A’s, and The A’s. The official uniform colors selected by the team are gold, white, and hunter green. The Athletics are one of the eight charter franchises of the American League. The team was founded in Philadelphia but moved to Kansas City in 1955. Later on, they moved once again in 1968 to their final and current location, Oakland.
The Oakland Athletics have won 9 World Series titles, 15 AL Pennants, 16 West Division titles, and 4 Wild card berths. The Athletics won three of the nine World Series from 1910-1913.
Stomper, a white elephant, is an official mascot for the Oakland Athletics. The team has inducted several players into the Hall of Famers, including Catfish Hunter, Dave Stewart, Charlie Finley, Mark McGwire, Reggie Jackson, Rollie Fingers, and a few others.
