Oklahoma City Thunder Information
The Oklahoma City Thunder is an American National professional basketball team based in Oklahoma City. The franchise was founded in 1967 as Seattle SuperSonics and got renamed to the current name in 2008. The team is a member of the Western Conference Northwest Division of the league and competes in National Basketball Association NBA. The Thunder plays its home games at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. Some of the former arenas where the team played as Seattle SuperSonics are Seattle Center Coliseum (for occasional use), Kingdome, Seattle Center Coliseum, Tacoma Dome, and a few more.
The Thunder opted for sunset, yellow, navy blue, and thunder blue as their official uniform colors. The team has Rumble the Bison as its official mascot. Wheedle, and Squatch is the two formal mascots. The team is the only one in the major professional North American sports leagues based in Oklahoma state.
The SuperSonics (now Oklahoma City Thunder) qualified for the NBA playoffs 22 times. They won the division 6 times and moved to NBA Finals 3 times. The SuperSonics won the 1979 NBA Championship. When the team shifted to Oklahoma, the Thunder won their first division title (2010–11). The team also won their first Western Conference championship (2011–12) and appeared four times in the NBA Finals.
The team has won 11 Division titles and 4 Conference titles. The team as Seattle SuperSonics had been honored to earn several individual awards, including NBA Most Valuable Player (Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook), NBA All-Star head coach (Scott Brooks), NBA Coach of the Year (Scott Brooks), NBA Community Assist Award (Russell Westbrook), All-NBA First Team (3 players), NBA All-Defensive First Team, and several more.
