The Players Championship is a golf tournament of the PGA Tour that takes place annually. The competition is commonly known as The Players, first taking place in 1974. The Players, owned by the PGA tour, are known to offer the highest prize fund of any golf tournament. The field of the competition usually includes the top 50 players in the world meeting up to compete at Ponte Vedra Beach. For the first thirty years, The Players Championship was played in mid-to-late March just a few weeks before The Masters.
So far, the venues where the tournament has been played include TPC Sawgrass, Stadium Course (1982-Present), Sawgrass Country Club (1977-1981), Inverrary Country Club, East Course (1976), Colonial Country Club (1975), and Atlanta Country Club (1974).
The format of The Players Championship is a Stroke play with the length of the tournament course being around 7,189 yards. Six players in total have won the tournament title for more than once. Those six players include Jack Nicklaus (1974, 1976, 1978), Fred Couples (1984, 1996), Steve Elkington (1991, 1997), Hal Sutton (1983, 2000), Davis Love III (1992, 2003), and Tiger Woods (2001, 2013). Players who have won the tournament so far include Rory Mcllroy, Webb Simpson, Kim Si-woo, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Martin Kaymer, Tiger Woods, Matt Kuchar, K.J. Choi, Tim Clark, Henrik Stenson, Phil Mickelson, Stephen Ames, Fred Funk, Adam Scott, Craig Perks, David Duval, and many others.
