Paramount Theatre is a performing arts theatre located at 3rd Avenue, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The theatre has a seating capacity of approximately 1,690 people. It opened to the general public on September 1, 1928. In the early years, the venue presented a range of singers, comedians, dancers, acrobats, and movies. Peacock and Frank designed the architecture of the Paramount Theatre. Currently, it is owned by the City of Cedar Rapids while managed and operated by VenuWorks. Paramount Theatre underwent significant structural renovations and modifications in the year 2003. Paramount Theatre was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on August 26, 1976. It was also included as Contributing Property in the Cedar Rapids Central Business District Commercial Historic District.
Paramount Theatre is home to the Orchestra Iowa, Cedar Rapids Area Theatre Organ Society, and a series of community concerts. It hosts concerts, musical events, theatre, stage shows, community gatherings, and many other entertainment events. Joe Bonamassa, Tom Segura, Amos Lee, Chris Janson, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Nick Jr., Alice Cooper, and Janson Isbell are some of the famous artists and bands that performed at the Paramount Theatre. It also hosted PJ Mask Live, The Magical Music of Harry Potter, Strong Theory, Spamalot, Finding Neverland, Christmas Wonderland, Russian Festival, and Burlesque Festival 2008.
