Spring Training - Atlanta Braves at Baltimore Orioles
Ed Smith Stadium is a venue located in Sarasota, Florida. The stadium has served as a spring training home of the Baltimore Orioles since 2010. It has a seating capacity of 8,500, and the stadium is under the ownership of Sarasota County. Baltimore Orioles are the current operators of the field, which opened for the public in 1989 and underwent renovation in 2011. The building's original architecture is done by Populous Original Structure, whereas David M Schwarz Architects, Inc completed the renovation architecture.
Ed Smith Stadium served as the home field for Cincinnati Reds (spring training), Chicago White Sox (spring training), Sarasota Reds (FSL), Sarasota Red Sox (FSL), Sarasota White Sox (FSL), and GCL Reds (GCL). Currently, it is home to GCL Orioles (2010–present) along with Baltimore Orioles (spring training) (1991, 2010–present).
Ed Smith Stadium was built to replace Payne Park as a Minor League Baseball and Spring Training site and was named after a Sarasota civic leader. The field also replaced Plant City Stadium as the spring training home of the Cincinnati Reds in 1998. From 1989 to 2009, Ed Smith Stadium hosted a series of Minor League Baseball teams, and from 2004 until 2009, the stadium housed the Gulf Coast Reds of Gulf Coast League. The stadium also serves as a host for many high school and college baseball tournaments.
