The Palace Theater is a movie palace which is located at 19 Clinton Avenue, Albany, New York. Previously, it was owned and operated by the Palace Performing Arts Center. However, due to being unprofitable, the place got closed in September 1969, and thus the ownership shifted to the city of Albany, New York. The construction of the building started in June 1930. It was opened for the general public in October 1931. The Palace is known for its atmospheric theater design. The venue has retained most of its original elements, especially murals painted by Hungarian artists and beautiful brass chandeliers in the main lobby. The building went through renovations in the years 1960 and 2002. The Palace Theater has a seating capacity of 2,844 people at a time. John Eberson designed the architecture of the Palace Theater. The venue made into the National Register of Historic Places in the year 1979.
The venue usually hosts 150 events annually. The building has still kept its tradition of hosting live shows alive. The Palace Theater is hosting public events such as concerts, live comedy shows, conferences, meetings, world-class ballet and private events such as dance competitions, weddings, and graduations. Top artists like Roy Orbison, Jerry Seinfeld, Melissa Etheridge, and the Rolling Stones have charmed the stage of the Palace Theater over the years.
