LaVell Edward Stadium, formerly known as Cougar Stadium, is an outdoor football stadium located within the Campus of Brigham Young University at North Canyon Road, Provo, Utah. It opened to the general public on October 2, 1964, replacing the smaller venue. The stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 66,247 people. Currently, Brigham Young University owns and operates the field. Fred L. Markham designed the architecture of the stadium. LaVell Edward Stadium underwent some significant renovations in 2003 and 2010 and minor modifications in the years 2012 and 2013. The stadium was renamed to Lavell Edward Stadium in honor of the retired head coach, LaVell Edward, in 2000. The highest collection of Jurassic period fossils was stored underneath the east bleachers of the stadium until 2005. It is home to the football team of Brigham Young University, also known as BYU Cougars.
Apart from regular football matches, the stadium also serves host to music concerts, Annual Stadium of Fire as part of America's Freedom Festival, High School Playoff Games, Rocky Mountain Band Competition, NCAA Division 1- A Football Sessions, etc. Some famous artists and bands that performed concerts at the stadium include Keith Urban, One Republic, Tim McGrew, Beach Boys, Kelly Clarkson, and Miley Cyrus.
