Benedum Center for the Performing Arts, is a Pittsburgh Cultural Trust theatre and home for ballet Opera, Dance along with touring shows, movies, and concerts.
Located in 237 7th St, within the heart of Pittsburgh's cultural district, Pennsylvania, the vicinity was formerly known as Stanley Theatre, constructed as the largest Movie theatre in Western Pennsylvania by business tycoon James Bly Clark in 1927. It had a capacity of 3800 people and was named as a "Number one Auditorium in the United States" by Billboard magazine.
In 1987, this movie palace was re-purchased and re-constructed by Cinemette Corporation, to a full performing art center with an extended stage, 2800 seating capacity and well-equipped support facilities behind the theatre. It has now become one of the most utilized theatres in the nation today and home to Pittsburgh Cultural Trust presentations containing Pittsburgh Dance Council, Pittsburgh International Children's Theatre, Cohen & Grigsby Trust Presents, PNC Broadway Across America, CD Live, and First Night Pittsburgh.
This theatre is decorated with 90 crystal chandeliers including the large chandelier in the dome being the center-piece of the auditorium along with sconces, torchieres, Grand Lobby mirrors, marble and woodwork to give you memorable, lavish and premium experience throughout the event.
