Target Center is a multi-purpose site located in downtown at 600 First Avenue North, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Its ground was shattered on July 12, 1988. The venue was opened to the general public on October 13, 1990, with a construction cost of $104 million. The center has a seating capacity of 18,798 for Basketball, 15,500 for hockey, and more than 20,000 for concerts. The venue is owned by the City of Minneapolis and operated by Anschutz Entertainment Group. KMR Architects Ltd designed the Target Center. The arena underwent renovations on and off in 2004, 2014 and 2017.
The primary tenants of the Target Center are Minnesota Timberwolves (from 1990-present), while the previous ones are Minnesota Lynx, Minnesota Arctic Blast, Minnesota Moose, Minnesota Fighting Pike, and Minnesota Valkyrie. Some notable events that were hosted by the venue are NBA All-Star Game in 1994, NCAA Women’s Final Four in 1995, and NBA Draft in 2000. The center will be hosting NCAA Men’s Regional Final in 2021. Target Center hosted its first championship event the 2011 WNBA Finals. The center hosted neutral-site NHL games from 1993-1994. Minnesota Moose also played at Target Center from 1994-1996 along with the Boy’s State High School Hockey Tournament in 1998 and 1999. The arena also hosted NCHC tournament games back in 2014. Famous artists who performed at the Target Center named; Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, Justin Bieber, Katty Perry, Elton John, etc.
