The Chesapeake Energy Arena was originally known as the Ford Center from 2002-2010 and Oklahoma City Center till 2011. This place is located at 100 West Reno Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States. The arena was opened to the public on June 8, 2002, with a seating capacity of 18,203 for Basketball, 15,152 for Hockey, 16,591 for Concerts and 16,757 for WWE/Boxing/MMA events. It is owned by the People of Oklahoma City and operated by the SMG.
The architect of the arena was designed by Benham Companies, LLC with support of Sink Combs Dethlefs. The arena hosted the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament in 2007 for the first time. Big 12 Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament was hosted at this venue in 2009. The arena had also played host to the Wrestling Championships in March 2014. The venue announced the 12-years naming-rights partnership between Oklahoma City Thunder and Chesapeake Energy Corporation. After these contracts were signed between these two parties, the arena got renamed as “Chesapeake Energy Arena.” The contract cost $3 million to Chesapeake with a 3% annual escalation.
