The North Charleston Coliseum is a multi-purpose arena that is located at 5001 Coliseum Drive, North Charleston, SC. It has a seating capacity of 14,000 people at a time which is distributed as 11,475 (basketball),10,537 (hockey, football), 13,295 (center-stage events), 8,805-12,645 (end-stage events), and 5,970 (half-house events).
The venue is a part of the North Charleston Convention Center Complex. It is under the ownership of the City of North Charleston while managed by SMG. The Coliseum was opened to the general public on January 29, 1993, with a construction cost of $25 million. It underwent renovations from 2010 to 2012. Odell Associates designed the architecture of the Coliseum. The venue is currently home to the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays professional ice hockey team and alternately to Charleston Southern Buccaneers (NCAA).
The Coliseum is considered to be the primary most favorite venue for concerts, indoor events, and large crowds in the area. The very first event that took place at the arena was at its inauguration, World Cup Figure Skating Champions ice skating exhibition. It has hosted the Big South Conference along with Southern Conference basketball tournaments. Some other notable events held at the venue are female production of Ben Hur event, WCW Uncensored (1997), The X Factor 2013 auditions, Built Ford Tough Series, Shania Twain, Wheel of Fortune, etc.
Some popular concerts held at the arena were performed by KISS, Kid Rock, Walking with Dinosaurs, CNNPresidential Debate, Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, and many more. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra's winter concerts and Beethoven's Last Night shows were also hosted here.
