The venue was open to the general public on November 8, 1930, with a construction cost of $118,000. It has a seating capacity of approximately 88,548 people. The venue is under the ownership of the University of Florida and managed by The University Athletic Association. The architecture of the venue was designed by Rudolph Weaver. It has undergone several renovations in 2003, 2011, 2015, and 2017. Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is open for students to jog around the concourse, run stadium steps, or just sit in the stands.
The first football match held at the stadium was played between Florida and Alabama on November 8, 1930. On September 23, 1950, the Florida Gators hosted their first night game at the stadium. The stadium achieved its highest attendance record of 90,916 people on November 28, 2015, when Florida State players celebrated their victory against Florida. Famous singers and artists, including Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffett, The Eagles, Elton John, and Joan Baez, have performed at the Bren Hill Griffin Stadium. An American singer Garth Brooks performed the most significant concert at the stadium on April 2019.
