MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las Vegas, NV
The MGM Grand Garden Arena is a multi-purpose arena situated within the MGM Grand Las Vegas. The venue is located at 3799 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV. It opened to the general public on December 18, 1993, with a construction cost of $28.4 million. The venue is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International. The architecture of the arena was designed by Veldon Simpson-Architect, Inc. The venue has a seating capacity of 16,800.
The World Championship Wrestling’s Halloween Havoc events were hosted at the MGM Grand Garden from 1996-2000. In 1994, the UWF television event Blackjack Brawl was also held in the arena. The venue is well known for several professional boxing super fights, such as Evander Holyfield vs. Mike Tyson II, Floyd Mayweather vs. Saul Alvarez, and De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather. In 1994, an indoor soccer team, the Las Vegas Dustdevils in the Continental Indoor Soccer League, played a season at the arena.
MGM Grand Garden had also previously served home for Los Angeles Kings games of pre-season against the Colorado Avalanche, Phoenix Coyotes, and San Jose Sharks. During the 1990s, the venue served as the site for the Women’s Volleyball Tournament. Annual World Finals event of the Professional Bull Riders was also held from 1994 to 1998. Along with sports games and events, some entertainment events were also a part of the MGM Grand Garden Arena, including Latin Grammy Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, and Phish Halloween’s concerts.
