The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple was formerly known as the Masonic Temple and Scottish Rite Cathedral. It is located at 416-420 North Washington Avenue, Scranton, Pennsylvania. The center was built in the year 1928, and Raymond Hood designed the architecture of the arena. The design of the building is a tribute to Freemasonry. It houses the Jeanette Weinberg Theatre which has a seating capacity of around 1,866 that hosts dances, concerts, Broadway Tours, lectures and so many other events. The purpose of building the Scranton Cultural Center was to provide a space for Scottish Rite Cathedral and Masonic Lodge for the public use.
Some famous artists who have performed at the Scranton Cultural Center are Jason Mraz, Dave Mathews, Alice Cooper, Breaking Benjamin, Maroon 5, and the Backstreet Boys. Not only this, but the arena has also hosted performances from Lewis Black, Jackson Browne, George Carlin, Shinedown, and Jeff Dunham. The annual season of national Broadway Tours is produced in the arena for over 50 years. Productions include Les Miserables, The Book of Mormon, Jersey Boys, Cats, and Run.
