The Forest Hills Tennis Club is a former name to the West Side Tennis Club (a private tennis club) which is located at One Tennis Place, Forest Hills, Queens, NY. The club comprises of 38 tennis courts in all four surfaces including Har-Tru, grass court, clay court, hard court. It has a seating capacity of 14,000 people outdoors.
The site also serves as an outdoor music venue and filming location. It includes a junior Olympic-size swimming pool along with few other amenities. The stadium was called a "crumbling ruin" in 2011 and was rejected as the landmark status by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission followed by its closure. But in mid-2013, the venue was reopened with an outdoor concert performed by Mumford & Sons.
The stadium is famous for hosting 60 editions of the US National Championships (renamed the US Open Tennis Championships in 1968). Also, the club finals of the Davis Cup were held here 10 times. The US Pro tournament was held at the venue 11 times while the Tournament of Champions was held 3 times. The stadium also hosted Forest Hills Tennis Classic. The final of the International Lawn Tennis Challenge was the very first event to be held at the club. It is also the summer home to The New York Pops.
Other than tennis championships, the Forest Hills Tennis Club has also hosted some great concerts by The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Chance the Rapper, Donna Summer, and many others along with serving host to the Forest Hills Musical Festival. It has been used as a filming location for films like Strangers on a Train, The Royal Tenenbaums, etc.
