Home of Syracuse Orangemen, The Carrier Dome is one of the largest domed stadiums located at the College campus. It was built to host various sports events. Over the three decades, it has hosted many events. In1970s, it was decided to build an indoor facility to host basketball, football, and many other events. The construction was completed in 1980 with a cost of $26.85 million. It was named after the Carrier Corporation which paid $2.75 million for the naming rights.
The first football match was played on September 20, 1980. It has a seating capacity of 49, 250 people. Carrier Dome is one of the biggest dome structures built on any college campus. The whole field turf is covered with a three-tier grandstand. The dome is made of Teflon coated fiberglass with a weight of 220 tons. When it’s snowing, it is heated to 145 degrees temperature, which prevents it from getting collapsed.
The Carrier Dome's main uses are home games for the Orange football team and Syracuse basketball team. On the west side of the Carrier Dome, there is a basketball court. Even after 30 years of existence, this place is still one of the best venues in college football.
