The Van Andel Arena is located at 130 West Fulton Street, Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States of America. It is a multi-purpose arena with a seating capacity of 11,005 people at a time. The venue was inaugurated on October 8, 1996, with a construction cost of $77 million. Since its opening, the place has appealed around five million patrons. It is under the ownership of Grand Rapids-Kent County and Convention/Arena Authority while it is operated by SMG Property Management. The arena is designed by the well-known architect firm, Rossetti Architects. The site received On-the-Town magazine Silver Townie Award for Best Live Music Venue (2008).
The Van Andel Arena served home to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League and was formerly home to the Grand Rapids Rampage of the Arena Football League along with Grand Rapids Hoops of the Continental Basketball Association. The place is a concert venue majorly with 44 luxury suites and 1,800 club seats along with 1,300 retractable seats. The arena was named in honor of the largest benefactors, Jay and Betty Van Andel. It is said to be the sixth-largest arena in Michigan along with being West Michigan's most extensive.
Some popular events that were held in this arena include Barack Obama's campaign, Built Ford Tough Series, Big Ten Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, WCHA Final Five, etc. Some famous performers that performed here are Pepe Aguilar, Boyz II Men, Hair Metal band Mötley Crüe, Neil Diamond, and various more.
