The NRG Stadium, which was formerly known as Reliant Stadium, is located at 1 NRG Parkway, Houston, Texas, USA. The venue is a multi-purpose stadium with a seating capacity of 71,995 (Expandable to 80,000 for concerts). The stadium was inaugurated on August 24, 2002, being the first NFL facility to have a retractable roof. The construction cost of this stadium was $352 million. It is under the ownership of Harris County Houston Sports Authority while it is operated by the SMG World.
The stadium is home to many of the United States men's national soccer team's matches, the National Football League's Houston Texans, the Texas Bowl, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It also hosts many various along with the facility for Super Bowls XXXVIII in 2004 and LI in 2017, and WrestleMania XXV in 2009. It is part of a complex called NRG Energy (a collection of various venues). The architect of this venue is worked upon by HOK Sport; Houston Stadium Consultants (Architect-of-Record) and Hermes Architects. It was damaged by Hurricane Ike on 2 and 13 September 2008. The stadium was closed and got reopened on October 5, 2008.
The stadium hosted its first regular-season NFL football game on September 8, 2002. In February 2003, the first rodeo was held at this venue. It has been hosted sports events including football, Rodeo, international soccer, college football, motorsports, hockey along with concerts and other events.
