The Fox Theatre in Atlanta is another former movie palace and a performing arts venue which is located at 660 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It is the centerpiece of the popular Fox Theatre Historic District which was opened in 1929. This theatre has a seating capacity of 4,665 in the auditorium and was developed as a lavish movie theatre in the Fox Theatre chain. It is under the ownership of Fox Theatre Inc. and hosts various events (cultural and artistic) which includes performances by the national touring companies of Broadway shows the Atlanta Ballet and some occasional concerts by various popular artists.
The principal Architect of the Fox Theatre was Olivier Vinour of the firm Marye, Alger and Vinour. The original Architect of the theatre can be divided into two styles, including the Islamic Architect and the Egyptian Architect. In the 1940s, the Fox Theatre gathered some strong management and became the finest movie theatre in Atlanta while the Egyptian Ballroom of the theatre became the most popular dance hall for the public. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 1974. It is the only movie palace that remained in Atlanta. It has the second largest theatre organ in the country which is nicknamed as Mighty Mo (4 manual rank pipe organ). The theatre is also a private residence to Joe Patten, who served as a technical director from 1974 to 2004. The theatre has held the following important events; Prince's final performance, 8th annual NFL Honors on CBS, etc.
