Rupp Arena is located at 432 West Vine Street, downtown Lexington, Kentucky, US. It was opened to the local public on November 28, 1976, with a construction cost of $55 million. The seating capacity of this venue is as follows, 10,011 (Hockey), 23,500 (Basketball), 5,000-24,500 (Concerts), and 7,550 (Arena Football). It is operated by the Lexington Center Corporation and underwent a major renovation in the year 2015. It has also served home to numerous pageants which include the Miss Kentucky pageant, Kitty America Pageant for cats and Annual Rupp Arena Dog Show.
The venue is a home court to the University of Kentucky men's basketball program. It is named in honor of legendary former Kentucky coach Adolph Rupp. It is currently considered the largest arena in the USA with an official capacity of 23,500. The Rupp Arena is exclusively designed for basketball, but it also hosts conventions, shows, and concerts. It is currently home to Kentucky Wildcats (NCAA) and the KHSAA State Basketball Championship.
The architectural job of the arena is done by Ellerbe Becket. The venue has hosted events like 1985 NCAA Final Four, Kentucky Thoroughblades, Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball tournament, WWE Backlash, and many NCAA Tournament regional games. The record-breaking crowd was held on January 2, 2010, which was recorded to be 24,480.
