The Pechanga Arena is historically known as the San Diego Sports Arena. It is an indoor arena located at 3500 Sports Arena Boulevard, San Diego, California, United States. The venue was built by Robert Breitbard in 1966. It was opened for the local public on November 17, 1966, with a seating capacity of 14,500 (Lacrosse: 12,920). The arena is owned by the Arena Group 2000 and operated by AEG. The Pechanga Arena hosts various shows such as circus, boxing, mixed martial arts, ice shows, stage shows, and concerts.
The arena has hosted the fight between Ken Norton-Muhammad Ali in the year 1973, and the fight was won by Ken Norton who was a San Diego local. The Pechanga Arena was the former home to the San Diego Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). They kept the arena as their home from 1967-1971. The arena has also hosted the 1971 NBA All-Star Games and the 1975 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four.
Janet Jackson has performed six times in this arena. Metallica performed two shows in a row at this venue during “Wherever We May Roam Tour.” Madonna performed for the first time at this during her Rebel Heart Tour on October 29, 2015.
