About Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains, or AIC as they're more often known, is a rock band from Seattle, Washington. The group was founded in 1987 by guitarist/singer Jerry Cantrell and drummer Sean Kinney, who added bassist Mike Starr and lead vocalist Layne Staley to the lineup. In 1993, Mike Inez succeeded Starr. Alice in Chains' sound features heavy metal elements despite the band's reputation for being connected to grunge. Staley and Cantrell's synchronized vocals are a defining feature of the band's signature sound. Since Cantrell's introduction to lead vocals on the 1992 acoustic EP Sap, his prominence in Alice in Chains has grown to the point that the band now has two singers. Alice in Chains has released three EPs, two DVDs, six studio albums, forty-three music videos, three live albums, four compilations, and thirty-two singles since their foundation. The band has successfully sold over 30 million albums at a global level, including over 20 million in the US. With 11 nominations and 18 wins, the band has dominated the Mainstream Rock Tracks list on Billboard. VH1 ranked them at number 34 on their 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock list. Alice in Chains received the Founders Award from Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture on December 1, 2020. Ann Wilson and Konn were the only two tribute acts at the benefit concert. More than $600,000 was donated to the museum on the first night. The best moments of the homage were collected into a compilation and made accessible on Amazon Music.

Essential Event-Day Checklist

Before You Leave

  • Digital Tickets: Download tickets to your phone's wallet now. Venue Wi-Fi is notoriously unreliable.
  • ID Check: Bring a valid photo ID; many venues require it for entry or "Will Call" pickup.
  • Bag Policy: Most venues enforce clear bag policies or limits (typically A4 size or smaller). Check the specific venue site to avoid being turned away.
  • Cash & Cards: While many venues are now cashless, bring some cash as a backup.

Pro-Tips

  • Power Up: Bring a portable power bank. Using your phone for video and ride-sharing will drain your battery fast.
  • Hearing Safety: Use high-fidelity earplugs to enjoy the event while protecting your hearing.
  • Hydration & Energy: Eat a full meal and stay hydrated beforehand.

Dress for Success

  • Footwear: Wear broken-in sneakers or boots. You could be standing for 3–5 hours; avoid new shoes.
  • Layer Up: Wear light layers (flannel or light jacket). Venues can range from chilly to very hot.
  • Style: Be yourself, but it always helps to have pockets or a small crossbody bag to keep essentials secure and hands-free.

Logistics & Safety

  • Arrive Early: Get there 60 minutes before doors to beat the merch and security lines.
  • Transport: Pre-book your ride share or scout parking garages in advance to avoid post-show surges.
  • Stay Safe: Identify your nearest exit upon arrival and designate a meeting spot for your group.
