About Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers are a hockey team from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The team plays in the Western Conference Pacific Division in the NHL. The 2016-built Rogers Place is where they play at home. The Oilers are one of the twelve founding teams of the major professional World Hockey Association (WHA), founded in 1971 by W. D. "Wild Bill" Hunter and Dr. Chuck Allard. They debuted in 1972. The Calgary Broncos and the Edmonton Oil Kings were meant to represent Alberta in the WHA. The Oilers have won the Stanley Cup five times since joining the NHL: 1983–84, 1984–85, 1986–87, 1987–88, and 1989–90. They share the record for the most championships won by a club that entered the league after 1967 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The team also shares the record for the most championships won by any team after the NHL-WHA merger. The team had a 35-19-2 record in the 2020-21 season, good enough for second place in the North Division, thanks largely to Connor McDavid's 105 points (he was only the ninth player in NHL history to score that many in 53 games). And Leon Draisaitl, who finished second in the NHL in scoring 84 points, also had a great year. Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored 100 points for the Oilers in 2022–23. The three of them becoming the first players in the same NHL club to collect 100 points since 1995–96 is a historic event. The Flames' 5-2 loss to the Jets in April 2024 ended their playoff hopes. In March 2024, the Calgary Flames and the Philadelphia Flyers were involved in a three-way transaction that sent Noah Hanifin to the Vegas Golden Knights.  With Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl still aggressively leading the charge, the Edmonton Oilers have had a tremendous preseason for 2024. The club has concentrated on enhancing its defensive performance; the new addition, Mattias Ekholm, provides blue-line consistency. Another focus has been goaltending; Stuart Skinner and Jack Campbell both gave outstanding preseason outings.  The Oilers seem ready to be among the top Western Conference contenders this season; they have displayed glimpses of supremacy in their games. With their star players firing on all cylinders and a reinforced defensive framework, the Oilers aim for a strong playoff run this year.
