Aerosmith Information
Aerosmith is an American rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Brad Whitford, Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton, and Steven Tyler. Besides "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band," they are also known as "the Bad Boys from Boston." In the music industry, Tyler and Perry are commonly referred to as the "Toxic Twins" because they write most of their songs together.
Before Perry, Kramer, and Tabano (on guitar) formed Aerosmith, Perry, and Hamilton played in a band called the Jam Band. In 1971, Whitford took over for Tabano. Their albums have been great successes, from 1973's self-titled debut to 1974's Get Your Wings, both certified platinum.
With over 150 million records sold worldwide, including over 85 million in the United States alone, Aerosmith is the best-selling American hard rock band ever. They have the most total certifications of any American group, with 25 gold, 18 platinum, and 12 multi-platinum albums. They are tied for the most multi-platinum albums by any American group. They have won four Grammys, six American Music Awards, and ten MTV Video Music Awards, and have amassed twenty-one Top 40 hits on the US Hot 100 and nine number-one Mainstream Rock successes.
2001 saw their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Since then, they have been named to not one but two of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time lists, coming in at no. Fifty-seven on Rolling Stone and no. 30 on VH1. Tyler and Perry were honored in the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2013 and the MusiCares Person of the Year award in 2020, respectively.
