Anita Denise Baker is an American singer and songwriter. She was born on January 26, 1958, in Toledo, Ohio. Anita Baker was raised by a foster family in Detroit, Michigan when she was two only. By the age of 16, Anita started singing R&B at Detroit nightclubs where David Washington, a bandleader, discovered her. She married Walter Bridgeforth, Jr., but the marriage ended up in 2007 with their two sons.
Baker began her career in 1975 when she joined Chapter 8, and the group toured to the point where they landed a deal with Ariola Records in 1979. After facing negativity from the band, Anita returned to Detroit and started working as a waitress. Otis Smith, a former associate of Ariola, convinced her to start a solo career under his Beverly Glen label.
Anita released her debut album as a solo artist, ‘The Songstress’ in the year 1983. Her second album was released in 1986, titled ‘Rapture.’ Third of her album was ‘Giving You The Best I Got’ in 1988. Her fourth album was ‘Composition’ om 1990. From 1994 till 2005, Denise created three albums, namely, ‘Rhythm of Love,’ ‘My Everything,’ and ‘Christmas Fantasy.’
Anita Baker has received many awards for her outrageous voice. She won the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018 by BET. A total of 8 awards were earned by Anita Baker from the Grammys and four awards from the American Music Awards. Anita also won 7 awards from the Soul Train Music Awards. Other honors included the International Artist of The Year award, which she won in 2005.
