Aterciopelados is also involved with the Destierro y Reparacion (Displacement and Reparations) project, which is about the issue of displacement of native people. The group was honored for their work denouncing violence in Colombia by the United Nations. Aterciopelados won 4 Latin Grammy Awards for the categories of Best Rock Vocal Album, Duo or Group 2001, 2 Best Alternative Music Album 2007 and 2018, and Best Latin Children's Album 2009.
