Chris Tomlin (May 4, 1972) is an American contemporary Christian music singer and songwriter born in Grand Saline, Texas. At the tender age of fourteen, Tomlin penned his first worship hymn. He honed his skills as a worship leader in his high school youth group. He attended Tyler Junior College (TJC) after graduating from Grand Saline High School in 1990 to pursue a career in physical therapy. After receiving his diploma in 1992, Tomlin enrolled at Texas A&M to pursue a medical degree. Flight Specialist Patrick Forrester, aboard Space Shuttle flight STS-117, awoke to Tomlin's rendition of "Indescribable" on June 14, 2007. Tomlin is a part of the charity and composition group CompassionArt, which published an album in 2008. He joined the board of CURE International, a charity that offers healthcare to children in impoverished countries, in 2014. Tomlin announced his departure from Austin Stone Community Church in May 2008 so he and Louie Giglio could launch a new church in Atlanta. On February 15, 2009, Tomlin and other worship leaders from the Passion City Church presented their first service.
