About Damien Rice

Damien George Rice (December 7, 1973) is an Irish singer-songwriter and musician. The rock band Juniper, formed in the early 1990s and signed to Polygram Records in 1997, was where he started in the industry. The band's singles "The World is Dead" and "Weatherman" were slightly popular in Ireland. Before returning to his homeland, Ireland, in 2001 to launch a solo career, Rice worked as a farmer in Tuscany and busked around Europe after quitting the band in 1998. The remaining members of Juniper later became known as Bell X1. Rice's first album, titled O, was published in 2002. It had three singles in the top 30 in the UK, peaked at No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart, and was awarded the Shortlist Music Prize. In 2006, he published his second album under the title 9, which was well received. Rice's third studio album, My Favorite Faded Fantasy, was published in 2014, following eight years of varied collaborations. Songs for Tibet, the Enough Project, and the Freedom Campaign are among the philanthropic causes for which he recorded amazing albums. Rice performed a version of Sia's song "Chandelier" in 2020. His rendition was included on the Songs for Australia charity CD. In late July of 2023, Rice was performing in Valencia, Spain, when the crowd yelled out the news that Sinéad O'Connor had passed away. He paused to process the information and then played "Nothing Compares 2 U" in honor of O'Connor.
