Eric Clapton Information
Eric Clapton is an English blues and rock singer, guitarist, and songwriter from Ripley, Surrey. Clapton received an acoustic Hoyer guitar on his thirteen birthday, but the inexpensive steel-stringed instrument was difficult to play, so he soon lost interest. Two years later, he picked up the guitar and started to play as blues from a young age highly influenced him.
In 1961, Clapton left Hollyfield School in Surbiton and attended Kingston College of Art but soon left due to his musical interests. His advanced guitar playing made him prominent at the age of 16. At the same time, he started venturing around Kingston, Richmond, and the West End. He began his career by performing as a duo with his friend, blues enthusiast David Brock, in pubs. Later, Clapton joined his first band at seventeen, which was the British R & B group, the Roosters.
Clapton also did a seven-gig stint with Casey Jones & the Engineers, and in October 1963, he joined the Yardbirds, a blues-influenced rock and roll band. He made his first appearance at the Royal Albert Hall, London, with the Yardbirds in December 1964. Clapton's major hits while being a member of Yardbirds include "For Your Love."
After working with countless bands, Clapton pursued his solo career and released his first studio album entitled Eric Clapton in 1970. A few of his other notable studio albums are There's One in Every Crowd (1975), Money and Cigarettes (1983), Journeyman (1989), From the Cradle (1994), and Me and Mr. Johnson (2004). Clapton also received various honors and awards throughout his career such as the Silver Clef Award from Princess Michael of Kent, BAFTA, Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement, and many more.
