Formed in the year 1988, Smashing Pumpkins is an alternative rock band hailing from Chicago, Illinois in the United States of America. The band's current line-up consists of Jimmy Chamberlin as the drummer, Billy Corgan as the lead vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist, James Iha as a guitarist, bassist, and backing vocalist and Jeff Schroeder as the guitarist and keyboardist. Having a vast soundscape, Smashing Pumpkins have elements in their songs that have been influenced by the genres of gothic rock, dream pop, progressive rock, and heavy metal.
Their second album, called Siamese Dream made them a commercial success. Non-stop touring helped them get a big fan following and also helped them spread their music internationally. Releasing two albums together in 1995 made them top the Billboard 200 album chart. Songs like "Bullet with butterfly wings," "Tonight Tonight," "Ava Adore," "The Beginning is the End," Stand inside your Love" have been fan favorites ever since their release.
The Smashing Pumpkins has broken up multiple times due to various reasons like drug addiction. Other causes include a fall in the number of albums that were being sold and other personal fights within the band members. Numerous line-up changes have made sure that the band does not stop making music or touring.
