ACC Baseball Championship Information
The Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Tournament is an American championship tournament in baseball for the Atlantic Coast Conference. The tournament is sometimes referred to simply as ACC Tournament. The tournament has an interesting history of odd formats for its baseball championship. The first tournament was played in 1973. Since then, the format has been changed almost six times. Currently, the ACC Tournament is played on a four-group, three-team round-robin tournament with the winner of each group to play in a single-elimination tournament format. The format is followed, particularly for the semifinals and finals.
The ACC Tournament had seven members for the first six seasons. The first round was the single-elimination, with the losers going home. On September 14, 2016, it was announced that the tournament would be played in Durham, North Carolina. Also, it was announced that it would be played alongside seven other sports, and it would be a neutral site championship.
The ACC Tournament would expand to twelve teams. The announcement was made on October 6, 2016. Most championships won by any team include Clemson Tigers, who have taken the tournament's title ten times so far. Official TV partners for the tournament are SportSouth, NESN, CSN Mid-Atlantic, Sun Sports, and FS South.
