Previously known as Army Cadets, Army Black Knights football team belongs to the United States Military Academy in college football. Black Knights are currently a Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) member of the NCAA. Most of their home games are played at the Michie Stadium located at West Point, New York. This stadium has a capacity of about 38,000 viewers. The current head coach of Black Knights is Jeff Monken, who in their sixth season coach.
Black Knights is a three-time national champion, winning the title from 1944–1946. During six seasons between 1998 to 2004, Black Knights played independently without any affiliation with any conference. Up till today, Army is one of the six FBS schools whose football teams do not belong to any conference; the other independents are BYU, Liberty, New Mexico State, Notre Dame, and UMass.
Three players from the Army team have won Heisman Trophy. They include; Doc Blanchard (1945), Glenn Davis (1946), and Pete Dawkins (1958).
