College World Series Information
The College World Series (CWS) is an American-based annual baseball tournament held every June. The tournament was first played in 1947. It is the culmination of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Baseball Championship tournament, featuring 64 teams in the first round. From 1950 through 2010, the CWS was held at Rosenblatt Stadium. Since 2011, it has been taking place at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
Till 1947, the eight teams of CWS were divided into two groups of four teams and single-elimination playoffs. The two winners then met in a best-of-three in the final in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In 1948, the format was quite similar, but the two four-team playoffs changed to double-elimination tournaments. In 1949, the final was expanded to a four-team and double-elimination format. The format kept changing over time with many changes.
The division I champions for the CWS includes Vanderbilt (2019), Oregon State (2018), Florida (2017), Coastal Carolina (2016), Virginia (2015), UCLA (2013), Arizona (2012), South Carolina (2011), LSU (2009), Fresno State (2008), Oregon State (2007), and Texas (2005). Champions by the conference for the CWS include Pac-12 (18 titles), Southeastern (SEC) (12 titles), Western Athletic (WAC) (7 titles), and Big Ten (6 titles).
