Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, fields the men's basketball team called the Colorado State Rams, which competes in NCAA Division I games. They call Moby Arena their home field as members of the Mountain West Conference. Niko Medved is their current head coach. Colorado State University (formerly known as Colorado Agricultural College) fielded its first men's basketball team for the 1901–02 season. The third, in the 1910–11 season, was when the school joined the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. In 1938–39, it followed most of the major institutions in that conference into the Mountain States Conference, where it remained until 1961–62. Throughout 11 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, the Rams have posted a 4-12 record. In 10 appearances, the Rams have participated in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), where they have gone 9-11 overall. The greatest comeback in Mountain West history occurred on January 2, 2021, when Colorado State defeated San Diego State 70–67 after falling by 26 points at Viejas Arena. On November 22, 2021, during the Paradise Jam tournament final, the Rams were down 20 points early in the second half. However, they rallied and won the game (and the tournament) with a 47-17 last-minute score. The tournament's most valuable player was David Roddy, who had 27 points and an average of 31 points per game.
